There was a kitchen fire at Maddie's camp today. She didn't even notice.
Hot vent started kitchen fire at Camp Mohawk in Greenburgh; no injuries

GREENBURGH - A small kitchen fire this morning did not endanger anyone and campers "are happily on their way," said Mohawk Camp Director Barbara Schainman after a 9:14 a.m. alarm caused the camp to do a real fire drill.
It looks as if a hot kitchen vent leaning against the wall above large cooking vats started the fire at the 200 Old Tarrytown Road camp, Fairview fire Chief Robert Mauro said.
Hartsdale Fire Department as well as Fairview responded. A thermal imaging camera confirmed that the fire that spread to the second floor in a wall was out within 40 minutes of the initial call, Mauro said.
Pizza is being delivered for lunch today and barbecues will be held. "We always have alternate plans," Schainman said.
The fire damage was "miniscule," but it will be up to the Health Department whether they can start cooking tomorrow, Steven Fraietta, assistant building inspector said. There was water damage, Mauro said.
The 900-camper facility already had practice fire drills, Schainman said. The 30 to 40 5- and 6-year-olds who had just arrived at the main building in which the fire occurred got out "smoothly and immediately," Schainman said.
Their laughter was audible in the vast expanse of camp beyond the main building at 10 a.m.
