I hate driving in the winter. I hate being out in the cold. But, I do love the beauty of winter. It really takes my breath away that something so stark, harsh and cold still manages to look magnificent. We had a mini ice storm yesterday, including school cancellations and random power outages through the day. There are quite a few birch trees in our neighborhood and they are all leaning over (see last photo), due to thin trunks. My most amazed moment was the fact that the top of the pine tree at the end of our driveway was sagging on top of itself. The first photo is my favorite. Maddie leaned out the front door to treat me to a dirty look, which translated as, "when you are going to stop acting like a goofy picture-taking dork and come inside and make the hot chocolate you promised me and Andrew?"

Not this winter yet, but we've had a few really cool ice storms and I do think they are beautiful, but only if we don't have to be out on the roads and such. So cool how all the trees "bow down", but all seem to stand back up when it's all melted! Love your pics, especially that first one!
